Synopsis from Edelweiss:
Millington Valley is a quintessential small Pennsylvania town: families go back generations. Football rules. Kids drink while adults look the other way. High school is a whirlwind of aspiration and rivalry, friendship and jealousy.
When smart and pretty Molly Hanover moves to town and attracts the attention of the football team’s hero, Wade Thornton-a nice guy with a bad drinking habit-longtime friendships are threatened and a popular cheerleader tries to turn the school against Molly.
The young couple’s future is shattered when Wade, drunk, wrecks his truck and Molly is thrown through the windshield. She wakes from a coma to find her beauty marred and her memory full of holes. As she struggles to heal, she becomes sure that something terrible happened before the accident. And there is somebody in the valley who doesn’t want her to remember.

My Experience: I started reading What the Valley Knows on 5/11/18 and finished it on 5/19/18 at 3:20AM. This book is a great read! I like the 3 point of views, especially Wade’s. I like how he pines for a girl he likes and it makes me smile when I read it. I like reading Wade’s journal and learning about what not to think, such as what-ifs because it’s already happened, instead think about today and about doing the next right thing. I like Mr. Franks and his care for students’ education. I like Lilly and her love talks. I like Ann’s love for Molly and Wade’s parents’ love for him, though not in the same way, they would do anything for family.
This book is told in the third person point of view following Molly, high school senior, as she tries to fit in at a new school and a new town. The second point of view is Ann, Molly’s mom. Ann and Molly recently moved to Millington Valley because Ann has a new job offer. Ann’s new job is a paralegal to the town’s law firm and she also waitresses part-time at night. The third point of view is Wade, the town’s star football player with a bit of a drinking problem. Millington Valley is a small town where high school football is the center of attention. Molly, being the new girl, caught the attention of the superstar Wade. Her attention from Wade causes rigid relationship between best friends and local mean girls. Ann and Molly lives in a house rented from Ann’s boss, who is a defense lawyer. One night, an unexpected intruder came to visit Molly, but that’s not the only thing to turn her world upside down.
A well written book, What the Valley Knows is an excellent read full of suspense and drama. I like that Molly enjoys reading and that she’s a quiet/shy person which makes her relatable to readers. I like how innocent she is, being 17 and have never been kissed. I’m disappointed that Molly and her mom aren’t so savvy about living alone, especially since Molly’s dad hasn’t been around for 10 years already. They both rented a house but don’t think to change the locks. I’m also surprised that Molly doesn’t know about being a designated driver when someone drinks. Despite her innocence, I do like the actions Molly taken to save the Applebee girl. This book has multiple happenings and they all are fascinating to read and I highly recommend everyone to read it! This book is also for cat lovers, their cat Derby is all over this story! 🙂
Pro: easy to read, fast paced, page turner, suspense, family, friendship, love at first sight, lessons learned
