Synopsis from Goodreads:

A hilarious and tender picture book perfect for fans of No, David that insightfully explores the inner world of a child. The picture book debut from the New York Times bestselling author of I Survived, Lauren Tarshis!

To the outside world, it might look like you do everything right: eat your broccoli, share your toys, and behave in the bath. But what about the moments when no one is looking, and your messier, mushier, scared-ier self is revealed? The only one who knows is… the loyal dog friend who sees it all and still loves you just the way you are.

This celebration of friendship, loyalty, and unconditional love with man’s — and child’s — best friend is sure to delight and entertain readers of all ages. Laugh along with recognition and delight in this ode to being true to yourself. With tender, humorous text from New York Times bestselling author Lauren Tarshis, and joyful, expressive watercolors from artist Lisa Mezoff, this sweet book presents a validating message of confidence, empowerment, and unconditional love.

My Experience: I read Only My Dog Knows I Pick My Nose for my 21 months old daughter on 4/14/2021 and again on 4/27/2021. It will definitely be a book we will be reading often. I love pointing out dog, cat, robot, dinosaurs, colors, etc to my daughter as I read this story to her. This was such a cute book! A boy and his best friend, his dog. There are no secrets between him and his dog. Since his dog is always with him, his dog knows everything that goes on with him. His dog accepts him even when he’s not perfect like not eating his vegetables when he should or keeping quiet so his baby sister can sleep. His dog loves him and he loves his dog. The boy’s house has a lot of things for him to do and where he goes, his dog follows. He splashes in the tub with T-Rex while his dog plays with spilled water. His socks is smelly and he pinches his nose so the dog also puts his paw on its nose.

This book follows a boy claiming that he always does everything just right as far as anyone can tell. He says he eats his broccoli and takes care of his baby sister. When he takes baths, he doesn’t splash. However, the truth is, only his dog knows what really happens. His dog knows that he doesn’t share all of his toys with his sister or follows every rules his parents lay out. Only his dog knows how high he climbs the tree and how loud he burps. Then of course, per the title of the book, only his dog knows he picks his nose!

Only My Dog Knows I Pick My Nose is a fun colorful book for kids. The boy and his dog do everything together and the illustrations makes it an entertaining read. I like the burping page where the dog has the same expressions as the boy as well as the smelly socks page. The boy whisper something to the dog and the dog seems to listen with caution. One of my friends has a dog with a son that looks to be the same age as the character in this story and I can say with the videos and pictures she posted on Facebook that this story is exactly a replica of them. They are playful together just like in this story. I love it and I highly recommend everyone to read this book!
