And a bunch of illegit GIUTA agents with creepy flowers where their eyes used to be. Then there’s Kal’s long-lost sister, who’s not exactly happy to see him.But with the reappearance of the colony ship that Auri was found on, new clues about Auri–and her powers as a Trigger–begin to come to light. And just in time. Because if Auri can’t learn to master her powers, the squad going to be soooo dead. My Experience: I started reading and listening to an audiobook for Aurora Burning on 9/21/2021 and finished it on 10/11/2021. Another excellent read, this story was more intense because the team has been blasted on the most wanted list. Adventures that were more dangerous than the last because they were on the run from everyone, even Kal’s sister, a leader of the Unbroken. I liked the way Tyler’s narrator spoke for Skeff Tannigut. The accent and how each words was dragged out sounded so funny. Auri’s narrator did a good job with her scared and crying voices. I loved how Kal studied Auri so closely. It was so good getting to know Zila in this book, so heartbreaking though. Zila’s clipped tone and lack of conversation is unique to her individual character. She had more to say in this book than the previous one so it showed her progress at thawing herself from her past. In the end, I liked that she felt something. I liked Tyler’s accent for Saedii’s voice too. Let’s be honest, I love accents in my audiobooks and I missed Cat’s accent.

This book started with a review of each of the characters in Squad 312: Auri, Tyler, Kal, Scarlett, 18, Fin, Zila, and Cat. From Aurora Rising, readers learned that Auri was part of the mission to Octavia III some 200 years ago but was lost in the fold. During her hibernation in the fold frozen in the cryogenic pod, the ancient mysterious race called Eshvaren who defeated the Ra’haam million of years ago gifted Auri some magic powers of telekinetic among others. Auri and the team eventually travelled to Octavia and learned that Ra’haam had been laying low there and 21 other worlds to slowly expanding and collecting their numbers to take over the entire galaxy again unless Auri and Squad 312 stop it. From book 1, Cat unfortunately was taken by Ra’haam. Then the story began with Tyler and Scarlett attempted to sell the Longbow, their flying machine, in Emerald City to a gangster. On TV, Squad 312 was announced as wanted criminals for the deaths of 7,000 Syldrathi refugees, the ones they brought medical supplies to help. Luckily from the TV announcement, Zila was able to solve a secret coded message and it helped the team escape a close call. Then they went on more adventures, starting with space walking to the Hadfield (the place that holds all of the cryogenic pods where Tyler found Auri) to retrieve the black box for clues.

Aurora Burning was well written and developed. The world building was excellent. Outer space adventures are great to read, but I myself prefer Earth because all of the different species and way of life will take a lot of getting used to. I loved many scenes between Tyler and Saedii. They were good humor. It was great getting to know more about Kal and his family. Tyler’s descriptions to the collar shocks was cringe worthy. One view I enjoyed least from this story was Auri. Her training and her attitudes were annoying. Kal’s secret was definitely uncalled for. I’m shocked. Double shocked was the Weapon’s new location. I didn’t like how everyone turned on one character like that. I’m surprised that he didn’t have a good defense for himself. I understand the authors made him defenseless to ready for Auri’s task the Esh required, but still. The ending, huge cliffhanger for sure! My second favorite audio voice was Scarlett. Her reading often sounded so smooth like she was talking. Fin’s character was still great and sweet. I can’t wait to read book 3! At the end, I couldn’t help but googled all of the characters to see how each of the actors looked like. I rate it 5 stars!
